Summary

S. Luzianin. China and Its “Close Surrounding”: Intraregional and Bilateral Relations

The article analyses the priorities in the foreign policy of the PRC. Crucial elements of China’s intraregional and bilateral relations with Japan, South and North Koreas, Russia, Mongolia, Central Asia, ASEAN, India and Pakistan have also being examined.

D.Fayzullaev. Fight for Mongolia: Does the Goal Justify the Means?

Nowadays everyone can observe considerably increasing efforts of the Russian leadership to develop the political and economic cooperation with Mongolia. After disintegration of the USSR in 1991 the position of Russia at the Mongolian economic market had weakened eventually, and now Russian companies have to regain their place in Mongolia in the condition of strong competition with leading foreign companies of other countries.

A. Simoniya Burmese Style Privatization

The privatization in Myanmar was initiated in 1995 after the establishment of Privatization Commission. The author divides the process of privatization into two stages. During the first one which took more than decade, there was very little success except privatization of cinema-halls and small scale properties. But before the parliamentary elections that are to be held in the end of 2010, the military government started the largest in the country’s history sell-off of state assets including administrative buildings, port facilities and large equities in the national airlines.

E. Biryulin. Environmental Problems in Shanghai.

Shanghai is the largest city in China. The high level of its economic development entails fairly complex environmental problems, the importance of which is enhanced because of organizing the International Exhibition “Expo-2010”. Estimates of the environmental situation in Shanghai are ambiguous. The main difficulties are related to the state of air quality, water resources and the progressive accumulation of solid waste. Atmospheric carbon dioxide pollution in Shanhai breaks the record not only for China. Serious problems exist in the fields of water resources and urban water supply. Nevertheless, Shanghai is well positioned to become an engine of China’s environmental policies.

O. Maksimova. The Institution of Chairman of the People’s Republic of China in Political and Legal Development of the Country

The article examines the establishment and development of the institution of Chairman of the People’s Republic of China from the October 1, 1949 until today. Rise and development of this post in China was influenced by historical and national traditions, as well as by the consideration of necessity and expediency for creation of this institution in given political conditions.

Zhao Meng. Political Science and Reform of Political System in the People’s Republic of China

The article considered the historial background for the formation of ideological and political basis of the Chinese Communist Party activities that started in early 90’s of the 20th century. The author demonstrates the interrelation between the CCP ideological and theoretical work and the development of political science in modern China, describes the problems that are in the focus of attention of Chinese political scientists.

A. Gabuev. Chinese Nationalists: Features of Intellectual Portrait of Wang Xiaodong

The article examines intellectual biography of Wang Xiaodong — one of the leading advocates of nationalism in contemporary China and key author of 2009 bestseller “Unhappy China”. Using Internet as a primary communication channel Wang Xiaodong tries to reach a broader audience compared to scientific journals’ readers. The paper reconstructs Wang’s doctrine of turning China into a 21st century superpower by positioning Chinese nationalism as a leading ideology for the PRC.

Zhang Ruizhuang and A. Korolev. International Relations Theory with Chinese Characteristics: State of The Art and Tendencies of Development

The article analyzes the state of research of international relations in China. The main emphasis has been placed on the development of international relations theory with Chinese characteristics. Different approaches of the leading Chinese IR scholars to the issue are considered. The main theoretical elaborations are analyzed and possible tendencies in development of IRT in China are defined.

The author tries to find his own answer to the question. He stresses the priority of internal factors with particular underlining the role of Pak Hong-Yong, who is seen as the main mastermind of orchestrating the war.

A. Yurkevich. Chinese Army in Burma Campaigns of World War II (1942—1945)

The article dwells on the operations of Chinese troops against Japanise Army in Allies’ Burma campaigns aimed at reopening land routes to China for military supplies. Allies’ strategies and clash of their interests bound up with these operations are also described. The author belives that success scored in Burma operations could not have been repeated in China, because Chinese troops in Burma were a part of unified, up-to-date military organization, whereas in China such condition did not existed.

I. Usov. The Movement for Convening the Indochinese Congress in 1936

This article is the first attempt in Russian historiography to study the movement for convening the Indochinese Congress, that took place in 1936–1937, and according to historians of Socialist Republic of Vietnam, was comparable to revolutionary upsurge of the early 1930s. The article provides an overview of the Congress movement emergence, the social forces involved, the reaction of the metropolitan and colonial government. Special attention is paid to causes and consequences of its defeat.
