A. Lomanov, O. Borokh. The First Steps of the New Chinese Leadership

The article is devoted to new trends in China’s policy after the XVIII Congress of the CPC. New slogan of the «Chinese dream» of «great revival of the nation» opens up new prospects for consolidation of society around the goals of development. The Chinese leadership emphasizes the difficult nature of the upcoming reforms and the need to overcome the increasing resistance to change.

A. Karneev. «Chongqing Model»: What Was It?

During the year since the beginning of the «Chongqing drama» a large number of materials were published that shed light on the unique experience of social and economic development of that Chinese region. Whether there was in fact «Chongqing model» and what was its specificity? What could be the future of the current leftsocio-political spectrum in China after the XVIII Congress of the CPC? The article attempts to put a number of questions related to the need to assess objectively the «Chongqing model».

S. Lousianin. Russian-Chinese Dimensions of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Model — 2013

The article highlights the subjects related to the Russian-Chinese cooperation in the SCO. It shows the possibility to consolidate RF—PRC interaction and provides some theoretical approaches to elaboration of the SCO development strategy, options and possible scenarios of SCO evolution in 2013.

V. Portyakov. Some Aspects of the Foreign Policy of the People’s Republic of China in 2012

The main directions of the foreign policy of the PRC in 2012 are analyzed. They include preparation of the international political platform of the XVIII Congress of the CPC, countering «the return of the U.S. to Asia» and three regional challenges (disputes over the sovereignty of the islands in the East China and South China seas, unresolved border issue with India) and diversification of instruments and vectors of China’s international activities.

V. Borodich, A. Vinogradov, P. Troschinsky. The First Session of the 12th National People’s Congress and a New Administrative Reform in China

The article discusses the results of the first session of the 12th National People’s Congress (March 2013) and of the CPPCC session, new appointments to senior government positions in China, legislative activities and peculiarities of the law-making process. Particular attention is paid to certain provisions of the administrative reform, which was initiated at the NPC session this year.

S. Suslina, V. Samsonova. The Economy of the Republic of Korea: New Perspectives and Challenges

The authors sum up the main results of the economic development of the Republic of Korea for the period of ruling by the President Lee Myung-bak, analyze the overcoming of crisis tendencies in South Korea due to the influence of the fiscal crisis of the Euro area and the reduction of the country’s exports. Different opinions and predictions about the future development of the South Korean economy are compared.

V. Chuvankova. State Support for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in China: a New Phase

Since the early 2000s, the Chinese government attaches special importance to enhance the entrepreneurial activity of citizens and increase the flow of private domestic investment in the economy with an emphasis on supporting small and medium-sized businesses. The article describes the basic policies and specific measures to support and promote the medium, small and micro-enterprises in the new environment.

M. Potapov. On the Sustainability of the Chinese Economy in the Period of World and Regional Crises

The internal and external factors of the economic growth of the PRC for the period of 2008–2012 are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the role of external trade, cross-border capital flow, exchange rate policies in order to ensure a sustainable development of the Chiniese economy.

A. Krushinsky. USSR, the Comintern and the «China Factor» of the Second World War

The article describes the efforts of the Soviet Union and the Comintern in formation of the United Front in China. The hypothesis that Moscow’s efforts to end the civil war in China helped it to become an active participant in the anti-fascist coalition and contribute to the prevention of Japan’s aggression against the USSR in 1941 is substantiated.

V. Kuzminkov. San Francisco Peace Treaty of 1951 in Japanese Historiography

The article describes the problem of interpretation by Japanese historians of San Francisco Peace Treaty of 1951, which ended the state of war between the Allied Powers and Japan and returned the sovereignty of the later. Based on a comprehensive analysis of many documents, the author presents his view on the results of the San Francisco Peace process and evaluates the arguments of the academic community in Japan.

A. Khisamutdinov. Russian Women in China (1922–1940)

The article describes the difficult lives of Russian immigrant women in China. Because of lack of men who died in the war, they married the Chinese or other foreigners, tolerate many humiliations and hardships in order to support their families. Russian charities tried to help women by organizing various training courses for jobs.

E. Aurelene. The Fate of Russian Émigré Culture in China (1920–1940): Regional Dimension

In the context of the history of Russian emigration in China the article is focused at the issues of ethno-cultural identity in the conditions of the recipient country. On the base of the comparative historical analysis the role of the regional factor in the preservation and development of the Russian emigrant culture in Manchuria, Northern China, Shanghai and Xinjiang is being studied.
