V. Portyakov. Foreign Policy of the People’s Republic of China in 2016

Main features and directions of China’s foreign policy in 2016 are analyzed. The desire of Beijing to play a greater role in global governance, relying upon such instruments as “summits’ diplomacy” and cooperation in “One Belt, One Road” format, is shown. The development of the situation around the disputes on the South China Sea and China’s relations with the US and Russia have been examined briefly.

V. Kuzminkov, V. Pavlyatenko. Some Results of the Russian-Japanese Summit

The article highlights the process and results of the Russian-Japanese summit talks held on December 15–16, 2016 in Japan. It gives a brief evaluation of these negotiations and analytical overview of the reaction in political and business circles of two countries on the summit’s outcomes in terms of prospects for development of bilateral relations.

A. Vinogradov. European Advance of Beijing

December 11, 2016 marks 15 years since the PRC’s entry into the WTO. According to statements of the Chinese side, this means for China automatic granting the status of the country with market economy. What will change in the relations between China and the countries of the European Union after it happens? And what stands behind the reluctance of European countries to grant China this status? How the results of the referendum in the UK will affect the relationship between China and the EU? What are the prospects for conclusion of an agreement on the Transatlantic Partnership between the EU and the US and how it will change China’s position in Europe? These and other questions are addressed in this article.

V. Sova. The Role and Policy of Australia in the Asia Pacific Region

The article considers the process of formation of a new strategy of political development in Australia. It is noted that Australia has traditionally regarded APR as a potential threat to its existence, on the one hand, and at the same time — as an important trading partner. Reasons for the formation of pro-Western policies of Australia are explained through the prism of the historical background.

I. Zabelina, E. Klevakina. Evaluation of Structural Changes in the Economy of Regions’ Cross-Border Cooperation between Russia and China

The article discusses the process of transformation of the reproductive structures in the Russian and Chinese regions that are involved in the processes of cross-border collaboration, which appears to be an urgent task in the light of particular geopolitical interests of the Russian Federation. Special attention is paid to the analysis of changes in the structure of employment of population of the Russian regions.

Song Byung Jik. Structure of Foreign Trade of the Republic of Korea with the Russian Federation

The article describes the structure of foreign trade between the Republic of Korea and  the Russian Federation. Special attention is paid to the peculiarities of the structure of bilateral trade in goods and services. Analyzing the dynamics of its development, the author reached the conclusion of the need to increase turnover in goods and services, as well as to resolve the problems of structural imbalance.

In an effort to minimize the negative impact of the global financial crisis and the slowdown of GDP growth on the economy, the Chinese government increases investment in infrastructure construction. This gives a multiplier effect in the related industries, promotes employment growth. High-speed railway and automobile highways of the ‘grip’ space stimulate domestic demand, spurring the development of related high-tech production which allows to increase export revenues, becoming a new strategic sector of the economy.

O. Borokh. Wang Yanan and the Concept of “Chinese Economic Science”

The article focuses on Wang Yanan’s contribution to development of Chinese economic thought of the Republican period. The idea of creation of “Chinese economic science” proposed by the scholar in the 1940s and his assessments of classical political economy and Marxism are analized. Theoretical foundations of Wang Yanan’s criticism of non-Marxist trends in Chinese economic theories in the first half of the 20th century are studied. The paper reveals the connection between scholar’s ideas and contemporary discussions on sinification of economic science.

The article presents the analysis of the development of complex investment projects in the mining industry in the East of the Russian Federation. The expediency of using flexible forms of risk-sharing, associated with the attraction of foreign capital and technology that extend the territorial scope of the projects and bring the processing of raw materials to the high income level, has been proved.

Yu. Gracheva. The Situation of the Naxi Nationality in the Context of Globalization

The worldwide processes of globalization are spreading rapidly in the most remote corners of the planet, affecting economic, social, political, cultural and other spheres of life of large and small ethnic groups in different countries, including the Naxi in China who have been subjected to its tangible impact on the threshold of a new millennium. This article analyzes the situation of the Naxi people in the context of globalization, describes the main challenges and threats that this national minority faced with in the XXI century. Also the article pays attention to the role of China’s national policy in solving these problems.

T. Guruleva. National Education in China: Current State and Measures of State Regulation

The article studies the problem of ethnic minorities’ education in China. The author considers two kinds of the educational institutions, which are carrying out the education of ethnic minorities: a national educational institution and an educational institution of the national area. Measures for improvement of the system of public administration in national education sphere are investigated.

Fan Xuesong. China’s Position on the Issue of the Southern Kuril Islands

Against the background of comprehensive cooperation between Russia and China there might be some doubts about the future of Russian-Chinese interaction, the reason of which in Russian society sometimes is related to historical position of China on the question of the South Kuril Islands. This article presents a historical analysis of the position of the People’s Republic of China concerning the southern Kuril islands and its impact on Russian-Chinese cooperation in the sphere of regional security.

V. Kuzminkov. Joint Declaration of 1956 by the USSR and Japan in Japanese Historiography

The article discusses the problem of interpretation in Japanese historiography of the Joint Declaration of 1956, which ended the state of war between the USSR and Japan. Based on a comprehensive analysis of the documents, the author presents his view about historic significance of the Declaration and assesses the arguments put by the representatives of the academic community of Japan.

The author presents the analysis of the book by Chinese historian Li Weili “The Great Russian Sinologist N. Bichurin”, notes its importance and relevance to the modern trend in development of Russian-Chinese relations and the New Silk Road project. Based on the new documents he provides updated curriculum vitae of N. Bichurin (1777–1853): place of birth, information about his father, etc.

E. Voitishek, A. Rechkalova. Japanese Heraldry at the Present Time

The article investigates the current stage of the development of heraldry in Japan. The various applications of heraldic symbols, the value of heraldry to the modern and traditional cultures are discussed. The issue of the perception of Japanese coats of arms as part of the culture and history of the country is touched upon. The problem of preservation of cultural heritage in the conditions of negative external influence is also considered.

O. Pelevina. Christian Communities in Contemporary China: Typology Coined by Scholars in the Field of Chinese Religious Studies

The author proposes a survey of Christianity researches, conducted by Chinese sociologists. The article focuses on recent publications that deal with characteristics of different groups of Chinese Christians. The characteristic religious behavior of professing Christianity representatives of four Chinese social groups — residents of rural areas and cities, intellectuals and businessmen — is described.
