S. Uyanayev. Chinese Project «One Belt — One Road»: Concept, Plan and Cooperation with Russia

The article discusses the geographical scope, main objectives, principles and implementation methods of Chinese initiative to build «the economic belt of the Silk road and maritime Silk road of the XXI Century», analyses adopted in March 2015 the governmental concept and action plan for this project. The author explores the opportunities and challenges that exist in the field of Russian-Chinese cooperation.

Yang Yuheng. The 2001 Treaty as the Legal Basis of the Russian-Chinese Strategic Partnership

The article argues that a consistent and comprehensive development of relations between Russia and China in the spirit of the Russian-Chinese Treaty of 2001 on Good Neighbourship, Friendship and Cooperation brings real benefits not only to the peoples of the two countries, but also serves to the consolidation of peace, security and stability at regional and global levels.

The role and place of small businesses in the PRC economy on the new stage of economic reform is discussed. Special attention is paid to the situation in individual and private sectors of the economy — the main component of small businesses in the country.

Hu Angang. The Way of Chinese Modernization (1949–2014)

In the focus of the article the author, a prominent Chinese political scientist, puts the definition and content of modernization in China; its historical stages, the genesis of its understanding and interpretation in the leadership of the CPC of different generations, the specificity of modernization in Chinese style and the influence on it from the outside world.

The article analyses the modern state and prospects of development of the PLA Ground Forces, indicates the goals and objectives of modernization of this type of armed forces of the PRC. The author notes the strengths and weaknesses of the PLA Ground Forces, reveals their combat capabilities.

O. Pochagina. Single Mothers in Contemporary China: Status and Problems

The author examines the causes of the phenomenon of single motherhood in contemporary China, the attitude of Chinese society and social scientists to this problem. Legislative and social aspects of the status, economic and psychological problems of mothers who are not married, the situation of children born out of wedlock are analyzed.

V. Zausaev. Chukotka: a New Model for the Development of the Far East?

The article discusses basic tendencies of development of subjects of the Russian Far East. Comparative data on the Chukotsky Autonomous Region and the Jewish Autonomous Region, as well as the Khabarovsk Region confirm the paradoxical trends: the southern territories of the Far East, located in the most favorable climatic conditions, on the border with fast developing countries and having more diversified and innovative economy, essentially lose to the Northern Regions in terms of economic efficiency.

B. Gorbachev. External Assistance to China during the War with Japan (1937–1945)

The author describes the importance of aid to China from the USA and the USSR in the war against Japan in 1937–1945. He analyzes forms of Soviet military assistance to the struggle of Chinese people against Japanese aggression at different stages of the Second World War, as well as the U.S. military supplies to China under lend-lease.

I. Chernyshev. The Operations of the Red Army against the Kwantung Army in 1945 (in the Publications by the Newspaper «Amurskaya Pravda»)

The article reflects the coverage of operations of the Red Army for the liberation of northeastern China from the Japanese militarists by the newspaper “Amurskaya Pravda”. It is based on materials of the newspaper for August-October 1945, written by TASS correspondents, local journalists and direct participants of these operations.

E. Voitisheck, L. Chervinskaya. Conceptual Art in China: the Socio-Political Aspect

The article is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of conceptual art in China as opposed to traditional culture. It identifies political and economic preconditions of its formation, traces the history of development on the background of socio-cultural changes in the country. The authors substantiate the idea that the Chinese conceptualism has been strongly influenced by the state and society, because often acts as a kind of mirror reflecting the reality.
