A. Zhebin. The VII Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea: Preliminary Results

The article analyzes the work and the political results of the VII Congress of the DPRK ruling Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) held in May 2016 in Pyongyang. The author comes to the conclusion that the congress has not introduced any fundamental changes in internal and external policy of the WPK conducted over the last decades. The congress confirmed the policy of building socialism, expressed the intention to strengthen nuclear deterrent, to achieve the status of de facto nuclear power.

K. Voda. International Development Assistance and Security Interests in Japan’s Policy

The article analyses Japan’s policy in the field of Official Development Assistance (ODA) in the context of the task to ensure national security. It considers the basic national documents governing ODA. Special attention is paid to the changes in the concept of ODA in relation to the course of “normalization” of Japan’s defense and foreign policy with the aim of increasing the country’s role in international relations.

A. Afonasieva. The Role of Overseas Chinese in the Development of the Northern Branch of the Silk Road Economic Belt

The article discusses the problems of economic influence of the overseas Chinese in major regions of China, Kazakhstan and Russia through which it is proposed to lay the Northern branch of the Silk Road Economic Belt. The author analyses the territorial structure of investment and industry structure of enterprises of overseas Chinese in the economic area of the ring of the Bohai Gulf, in some localities of the Central and Western regions of the PRC. The sectoral structure of China’s large public and private companies in Kazakhstan and Russia, the possibilities of the business communities of overseas Chinese to participate in the promotion of the Silk Road Economic Belt are evaluated.

N. Koledenkova. Ferrous Metallurgy of China in the 12th Five-Year Plan Period and International Cooperation in the Industrial Sector

The article considers the problem of development of ferrous metallurgy in China. Because the industry creates the conditions for economic growth and largely contributes to improve the competitiveness of domestic producers in world markets, the modernization of the metallurgical complex is one of the priority tasks.

I. Ushakov. Environmental Pollution in China

The article considers the problem of environmental pollution in China, evaluates the results of work on environmental protection according to the 12th five-year plan (2011–2015) and projections for the 13th five-year plan (2016–2020). It analyzes the challenges facing China on its way to improve the environmental situation in the country.

N. Tolmachev. The Fight against Corruption in Indonesia at Present Stage

The article discusses the current situation of corruption in Indonesia and the leadership measures to combat its development. The efficiency of these operations, and significant progress in reducing the level of corruption are also confirmed by Transparency International. Author indicates the presence of a persistent distrust of the Indonesian society to law enforcement and to the current judicial system, gives characteristic of the new anti-corruption legislation, shows the work of the Corruption Eradication Commission.

A. Sizova. Information and Analytical Activities of Russian Consulates in Mongolia at the Beginning of XX Century

The article discusses the features of the activities of consular institutions of the Russian Empire in Mongolia in the field of analysis of the political and military situation there in early XX Century. It examines the work of foreign establishments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for monitoring the implementation of China’s policy in Outer Mongolia and the neighboring regions, highlights the participation of Russian diplomats in limiting the spread of Japanese influence in Mongolia, and explains their mediation role in resolving the “Tibet issue”.

L. Yangutov. Spiritual Origins of the Political Strategy of “Soft Power” in China

The article analyzes the philosophical origins of formation of the strategy of “soft power” as an essential component of the political orientation of modern China that demonstrates progress in economic, political, social and cultural fields. The doctrines of Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism which have exerted a great influence on formation of the principles of the “soft power” political concept are considered alongside with the use of these doctrines for rendering political influence on neighboring countries.
