V. Portyakov. To the 40th Anniversary of the Beginning of Economic Reform in China (a Brief Overview)

The article traces the general course of transformations in the economic mechanism and economic system of the People’s Republic of China during four decades of its reformist development. Separately, the most important changes in the ownership system and of reformist financial sector are shown.

Key words: China, economic reform, dynamics and content of reforms in the economic mechanism, changes in the ownership structure, changes in the financial and banking sectors.

A. Shenin, S. Shenin. After the Singapore Summit: American Strategies for Denuclearization of North Korea

The article is devoted to the study of the process of discussing by American politicians and experts the problem of denuclearization of the Korean peninsula from the point of view of the possibility to achieve a political consensus in the U.S. In the context of the current developments in the region the authors make comparative analysis of viewpoints of the most influential interest groups within the American establishment both in the Democratic and Republican parties. It is concluded that since all of these viewpoints of the groups in many respects go in line with President Trump’s policy of denuclearization, it should be expected that the Administration and Congress can reach a consensus on the problem in the near future.

V. Andrianov. The Role of International and Regional Development Banks in the Industrialization and Modernization of South-East Asia

The article analyzes the role of international and regional development banks in the dynamic development and transformation of the economies of Southeast Asian countries. The contribution of these financial institutions to the priority development of export industries and the orientation of economic development to the world market are shown. Financial assistance to the development of innovations, introduction of modern technologies, modernization of infrastructure facilities, development of the institutional environment of the market economy, Southeast Asian countries’ solution of environmental protection issues are considered.

L. Boni. The New Agricultural Strategy of the XIX Congress of the CPC: Goals and Challenges

The new agricultural strategy of China, put forward by the XIX Congress of the CPC: its goals, objectives and causes, role and importance; the specifics of the main social contradictions, new challenges and new chances for the development of the Chinese village are considered.

V. Kashin, L. Krasheninnikova. Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics – Creator of Chinese Nuclear Weapons

The article examines the development and the current structure of the China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP), the only Chinese entity responsible for development and production of the nuclear weapons. CAEP is a little known, but important element of the Chinese military industrial complex. The activities of the CAEP are not limited to nuclear weapons sphere but include works on laser weapons, the weapons on new physical principles and some high impact civilian research.

P. Kamennov. China: Military-Civil Integration

The author considers the problems of deepening the interaction between Chinese military-industrial corporations and civil sector in the information, scientific, research, technological and production spheres. This process is carried forward in the context of the implementation of state strategy aimed at transforming China into innovation power by 2020. Such interaction has to ensure the qualitative growth of the country’s economic and military potential on the basis of scientific achievements in the rational use of resources.

E. Goryacheva. Historical Background of Formation of Modern Media System in Japan

The article views the historical background of a modern media system in Japan (television, radio, print media, news agencies). The article discusses the issue of the origins of the interaction practice between the media and the Japanese government in the process of broadcasting and publishing news events. In addition, a brief overview of the main stages of the development of the Japanese media system is given, as well as an analysis of the key factors that have influenced the process of forming the media system of Japan at different periods of its history, including present situation.

D. Grafov. The Economic Model of the Guanxi Practice in China: Comparative Analysis

The article is devoted to revising of a three-dimensional concept of supervisor–subordinate guanxi. For better understanding of the complex and intricate guanxi phenomenon we offer to examine individual interests as main force in building guanxi relations and networks. The economic model of the tie between supervisor and subordinate may facilitate explanation of favor and benefit changes between the parties connected by the tie. Moreover, this approach does not ignore concept of leader–member exchange benefits. Loyalty, dedication, reciprocity, trust, all set of values, beliefs and associated behavioural norms that refer to guanxi may be considered as rationality of the ‘‘economic man” model.

E. Nesterova. Administration of Boundary Commissioner in the South Ussuri Region: from Project to Implementation (Late 60’s – early 70’s of the XIX Century)

The paper analyses early period of creation Administration of boundary commissioner in the South Ussuri region in the context of administrative’s reforms in the region. Reconstruction of the first boundary commissioner V.D. Ovander’s biography is made.

T. Gurulyova. Development of Framework of Reference for Chinese as a Foreign Language: a Part of the State Policy in the Field of Chinese Culture Dissemination

The article examines the historical process of developing framework of reference for Chinese as a foreign language. The history of the creation of the Chinese HSK exam, which was the preliminary stage in the development of framework of reference for Chinese, was studied, a comparative analysis of the structure and content of the old and new HSK exam systems was conducted. The prerequisites and stages of the development of framework of reference for Chinese as a foreign language, the structure and levels of the communicative competence of the Chinese language are described. The ratio of the developed levels to the levels of the HSK exam and the Common European Framework of Reference is presented.

L. Afonina. “Regulations on Religious Activity” of 2018 in China

In February 2018, China adopted a new “Regulation on religious activity”. It touches upon a large number of aspects of the religious sphere, imposing significant restrictions on the communities of believers. The document is aimed at combating the growth of religiosity in society and limiting religious activity outside the existing communities. Unofficial communities of believers, which for decades collectively outnumbered the adherents of official religious communities belonging to prostate patriotic associations, are under attack.

V. Sharonova. Russian Temple on the Yangtze River

The article deals with the history of Orthodoxy in China. An important role in the construction of churches was played by Russian merchants, who considered it their duty to strengthen the faith among the Russian population living far from home. One of the important points of the Russian-Chinese tea trade since the middle of the XIX century was the city of Hankou (now part of Wuhan). Here, in 1884, at the expense of Russian merchants, an Orthodox Church was built in the name of St. Alexandr Nevsky.
